The rupee recovered 14 paise to 66.40 against the dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on fresh selling of the US currency by exporters and banks amid positive economic data.

Forex dealers said that besides selling of the American currency, a higher opening in the domestic equity market and weakness of the dollar against other currencies supported the rupee.

On Friday, the rupee had lost 11 paise at 66.54 against the US dollar on sustained demand for the American currency from banks and importers amid a higher greenback overseas.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose 96.66 points, or 0.38%, to 25,706.87 in early trade today.
