Israel has stepped up security for its diplomats working overseas and instructed them to operate from home and avoid travelling to their embassies in vulnerable countries, days after attacks in India and elsewhere.

Tel Aviv is taking "whatever measures are required" to allow the diplomats to function. A Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said here.

He declined to outline the steps, but the media reported that Israeli diplomats in some countries had been ordered to work out of their homes and avoid travel to the local embassy.

Ministry spokesman said Thursday that Israel is taking "whatever measures are required" to allow its diplomats to continue working.

He declined to discuss what measures have been taken. But Israeli media have reported that diplomats in some countries have been ordered to work out of their homes and avoid travel to the local embassy.

His comments come as a senior Israeli minister for Energy and Water Resources, Uzi Landau is travelling to India next week to discuss bilateral cooperation.
