    The Gulf Stream. Intrigued by the fact that ships could travel faster eastwards across the Atlantic to Britain then they could on the return trip, the British treasury commissioned Benjamin Franklin to investigate this. He along with veteran mariner Folger made the first map of this current showing its origins from the gulf of Florida and called it the Gulf Stream. When Grumman developed a marketable business aircraft it named it after the Gulf Stream, the current that flows along the coast of Florida, which was a favourite vacation spot for Grumman executives.

He discussed the idea with his employers at IKEA, which then built the entire business around the concept, launching its first piece in 1956.
