Superbikes are typically motorcycles with a large displacement of around 1000cc, which allows them to accelerate quickly and maintain speeds of up to 300 km/hr.

Superbikes in India generally cost between Rs 9.5 lakh and Rs 12.5 lakh.

The potential market for superbikes is estimated at around 500 units in 2010.

Superbikes are imported to India mostly as spare parts because the duty on them is 25 per cent compared to 113 per cent on completely assembled ones.

The Indian market has brands such as Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Ducati, Kawasaki and Harley Davidson.
