Dear Students,

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:  Do you think the new IITs will be able to outperform their older counterparts in terms of academics, research and placements within a decade?

BEST RESPONSE

Within a decade of their establishment the new IITs stand a fair chance of surpassing their older counterparts. As far as placements are concerned, the second batch saw a tremendous increase of 15-20 per cent in average packages. IT giants like Amazon, Google have turned to these new IITs for placements. In terms of academics and research also, these are not far behind. Funds being never been a big concern for the brand IITs, there are many plans lined up for establishment of research centers.
-  Dipika Sahoo, College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar.

OTHER RESPONSES:

We hope that new IITs may pick the standards of existing IITs in terms of academics, research and placements. I am hopeful about the future development of infrastructure, research and development facilities at new IITs to grow up to the standards of existing IITs. Along with the development, selection and recruitment of candidates from new IITs may increase. Companies will develop more confidence while selection of new recruits from new IITs.
- Rituparna Saha Ray, Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.

IIT has a rich tradition of pursuing excellence and has continually re-invented itself in terms of academic programmes and research infrastructure. The presence of world class research facilities, vigorous institute-industry collaborations, international exchange programmes, interdisciplinary research collaborations and industrial training opportunities help the students of IIT to excel and be ahead in the competitive professional environment. IIT partnership with recruiters, alumni and friends remain committed to making recruiting experience productive and positive. IIT gives best match between their needs and capabilities.
- Vivek Shah, St. Kabir Institute of Professional Studies, Ahmedabad.

There exist faint possibility for new IITs to outperform their older counterparts because the value earned by older ones with long passage of time is obviously not comparable to decade old IITs. But certainly there is a chance for new IITs to prove their mettle in due course of time. For example, if the institutes boost up research prospects it can provide them a comparable or even superior stature. Also placement depends on research, performance of outgoing students. Thus, all factors are mutually interrelated and if any of the new IITs scores high on some aspects will sway the ideology.
- Shivam Chhabra, Integral University, Lucknow.

If the new IITs dedicated themselves to work towards outperforming their older counterparts in terms of placements, academics, research, etc. they can definitely achieve this vision. They just need to have the right person selected for the right job. They can refer the working of their older counterparts and the related case studies and work accordingly. The new IITs can learn from the blunders made by their old counterparts. And a decade is enough to prove oneself with the brand name of IIT.
- Kavita Oswal, Vishwakarma Institute of Management, Pune.

On the grounds of evaluation between the old and new IITs within a decade, New IITs will bring a new dimension in the area of academics, research and will challenge the old methodology of teaching whereas experienced IITs will mould itself with the environment for its survival. Thus out performance of new IITs in the area of placement ,will totally depends on students how he/she grasp these learning opportunity and deliver the same.
- Harsh Mehta, St. Kabir Institute of Professional Studies, Ahmedabad.

It is good that IITs compete among themselves in areas as pious as academics, research and placements and try to outperform one another. This will not only lead to better generation of the talent pool, but also rebuilding brand IIT image globally which is rapidly losing its glitter. As the country is in dire need of academician, the research scholar, so this competition will certainly will reap the benefit for the country. As of now we should not try to connect dots looking forward.
- Nilaya Mitash Shanker, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

The new IITs can outperform their counterparts provided the mentor institutes will support new IITs until they are able to function independently and are under direct supervision of existing IITs. If classes can take place in existing IITs for new IIT students then placement too can be conducted along with the student of mentor IIT until new IITs have independent placement cells. New IITs not only have to rise to the aspirations of meritorious students, parents and society at large but also have to ensure that the brand IIT is not diluted and regionalized.
- Lokesh Pravin Jain, Vishwakarma Institute of Management, Pune.
