Traditionally, engineering was defined by few core branches but now numerous divisions have emulated altering the whole job scenario. Some specialized engineering branches have gathered strong momentum in the past as a result overshadowing other key job profiles.

Consequently, specialized engineering sector has indirectly led to decline in fundamental engineering jobs. Although, it is true that primary job profiles in engineering have registered a downfall comparatively, it doesn't imply that they have lost their significance. As a matter of fact, it is these vital areas which form the basis of engineering and will remain predominant despite the current lacklustre.

OTHER RESPONSES

Core engineering is the base of the specialised engineering. But the question of people moving towards specialised engineering job profiles as compared to core engineering arises due to growing opportunities in the former. Core engineering job profiles won't fade amidst growing specialised ones.
- Rupesh Rathore, University of Petroleum and Energy, Dehradun.

Core engineering branches are evergreen branches as they are basics from which other branches are derived. They find applications in almost all aspects of engineering. Their utility may reduce but can't be negated. Civil engineering got cornered few years ago but now it is again in full swing. In fact in jobs apart from core engineering job, engineers require more aptitude and rational faculty of mind rather then technical knowledge.
- Nilaya Mitash Shanker, IIT Roorkee.

Specialized engineering is a branch or sub-branch of core engineering which is formed by making some modification & changes in the core engineering. Core engineering is lasting from a very long time and would last forever. Yes, of course specialized engineering might be served as a fast food but not as a full time meal. For reducing the cost of training some companies can prefer specialized engineering but not all the major companies. It would be very hard to shake the foundation (core engineering) at which whole branches (specialized engineering) are dependent. So Core engineering jobs profiles wouldn’t ever fade.
- Sumit Sourav, Regional College of Management, Bhubaneswar.

In the modern digitalization era, the companies are seeking for employees who are possessing specialised and are masters in their respective field. Due to the emergence of various engineering sector,
the companies nowadays are into complex working environment and they are looking for the candidates who understand these integrity and hence they are customizing on their hiring approach whereas core engineering profile are fading due to the change in the company requirement. Hence core engineering job profiles are fading amidst in today's scenario.
- Harsh Mehta, St. Kabir Institute of Professional Studies, Ahmedabad.

The specialized engineering disciplines are derived from combination, concentration or extension of the core engineering branches. In order to respond to the growing industry demands, Companies strive for continuous innovation and specialists have an edge of bringing radical ideas to the table. The recent recruitment drive at various colleges supports this argument as high paying jobs were bagged by students having specific skill sets. Fields like Biomolecular, Nanotechnology, Mechatronics, Aerospace etc will evolve more in the future and the demand for these courses will be on a rise.
- Srishti Chauhan, Jamia Millia Islamia University.
