Keeping in mind the rising costs for an MBA programme, Bangalore-based YGen Management Consulting Services has launched YMAT, a centralised aptitude test for aspirants for management colleges in the country. The test offers a complete end-to-end selection and admission process involving an aptitude test, group discussion and personal interview to be be conducted in a single day.

The other tests that students opt for to get into MBA colleges include CAT, MAT, XAT, ATMA to name a few. "This is a unique concept since students who take the other tests have to spend a lot on coaching, application fees, and travelling to various colleges for admission. YMAT helps in the selection and admission process, thus serving its main goal of cutting costs. We have approached the HRD ministry to make this a national aptitude test," said Dipankar Choudhury, chief executive officer of YGen.

For just Rs 750 (registration cost), students can take YMATwithout taking coaching lessons. "We believe that a graduate has the ability to think logically and thus have the same format as CAT and MAT, wherein the students have to prove themselves in the logical reasoning, general awareness and language ability sections. The students also save costs and the hassles of applying to multiple colleges through YMAT," added Choudhury.

YGen has tied up with 18 colleges across the country including Institute of Business Management and Research (IBMR) in Ahmedabad. For the academic year 2009-11, YMAT will be conducted in 15 region specific centres across North-east, West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. The test will be conducted on May 31 at YGens's Ahmedabad and Surat centres.
