The market capitalisation (m-cap) of eight of the country's top-10 companies increased by Rs 23,027.56 crore in the week gone by with telecom major Bharti Airtel emerging as the top gainer.
With a m-cap of Rs 1,56,059.08 crore, Bharti added Rs 6,968.44 crore to its kitty last week. The telecom operator has hiked mobile tariff rates by up to 20% for pre-paid users in certain packages across several circles.
Shares of the company also surged over 4% and rose to its one-year high level of Rs 412.80 on the BSE during the week.
IT bellwether Infosys Technologies saw its market valuation advancing by Rs 5,443.23 crore to Rs 1,62,225.95 crore and FMCG giant ITC added Rs 4,725.80 crore to its m-cap, which stood at Rs 1,60,634.70 crore.
State-run Coal India saw its valuation swelling by Rs 2,084.4 crore to Rs 2,33,010.52 crore.
Two of the country's top lenders, SBI and ICICI Bank, together added Rs 2,417.34 crore to their combined valuations. The m-cap of SBI stood at Rs 1,58,369.68 crore and that of ICICI Bank was at Rs 1,23,082.05 crore.
Oil & gas major ONGC's market cap accelerated by Rs 1,368.87 crore to Rs 2,39,339.55 crore and market leader Reliance Industries' valuation rose by Rs 98.22 crore to Rs 2,86,027.12 crore.
In contrast, TCS and NTPC saw losses in their respective m-cap.
Country's largest software company TCS saw its valuation dropping by Rs 3,004.31 crore to Rs 2,21,692.04 crore and power producer NTPC's m-cap declined by Rs 4,782.37 crore to Rs 1,51,180.51 crore.
Meanwhile, the BSE 30-share Sensex rose by 160.38 points or 0.86% to end the week at 18,722.30.
