Copper down 0.2% on weak global cues

Metal for delivery in June shed 0.18%

Copper futures prices today fell 0.22% to Rs 437.95 per kg, as speculators trimmed their positions amid a weak trend in the global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April declined by 95 paise, or 0.22%, to Rs 437.95 per kg in business turnover of 923 lots.

The metal for delivery in June shed 80 paise, or 0.18%, to trade at Rs 441.55 per kg in a business turnover of 19 lots.

Analysts said a weakening trend in base metals at the London Metal Exchange (LME) and subdued demand at domestic spot markets, put pressure on the copper prices at futures trade.

Globally, copper for delivery in three-months traded 0.30% lower at USD 7,012.50 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange, while at Shanghai, it lost 0.80% to 48,990 yuan (USD 8,011) per tonne.
