Government agencies and private millers have procured more than 9.89 million tonnes (MT) of wheat in Punjab till now, as compared to 10.18 MT the previous year at this time. Out of total procurement of 9.89 MT in all the procurement centres of Punjab, government agencies procured 9.85 MT of the commodity (99.6 per cent) whereas private traders procured 41,644 tonnes (0.4 per cent) of wheat. The Food Corporation of India has been able to procure 1.60 MT (16.2 per cent).
Reports said, Ferozepur district with 1.11 MT of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Sangrur with .91 MT of procurement was at second slot. Patiala district with .81 MT of procurement ranked third. The state government has set up 1,650 procurement centres and has activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat, said sources.
