Rice basmati rose by Rs 100 per quintal on the wholesale grains market today on buying by stockists due to expectations of a rise in demand in festive and marriage season.

Traders said stockists buying on hopes of a rise in demand during festive and marriage season, mainly led to rise in wholesale rice basmati prices.

They said government decision to increase the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat failed to have an immediate impact.

Meanwhile, the government raised MSP of wheat by Rs 20 per quintal to Rs 1,120 for the rabi crops in 2010-11.

In the rice section, basmati common and Pusa 1121 variety rose by Rs 100 each to Rs 5,400-5,500 and Rs 4,500-5,100 per quintal, respectively.
