The Sensex continues to extend losses and is now down 242 points at 11,043. Earlier in the day, the index touched a high of 11,367 after opening at 11,358. The Sensex then slipped into red and tumbled to a low of 10,0973.
Tata Motors has tumbled over 9% to Rs 255. Reliance Infrastructure has plunged over 7% to Rs 660.
Ranbaxy has slumped 6.5% to Rs 187. Jaiprakash Associates and Tata Steel have shed over 6% each at Rs 115 and Rs 276, respectively.
DLF and Larsen & Toubro have dropped over 5% each to Rs 243 and Rs 833, respectively.
Hindalco has declined over 4% to Rs 60. ONGC and Mahindra & Mahindra are the other major losers.
On the other hand, Wipro has surged 3.7% to Rs 279. Sun Pharma has moved up over 2% to Rs 1,239.
Hindustan Unilever has gained 1.7% at Rs 240. Maruti, Infosys and ITC are up over 1% each at Rs 857, Rs 1,386 and Rs 188, respectively.
The market breadth is now fairly negative. Out of 2,548 stocks traded so far, 1,593 have declined, and 885 have advanced.
