Sensex down 314pts; Tata Steel, Hindalco slump

The Sensex is now down 314 points at 9,856.

Tata Steel has slumped 11.5% to Rs 217, and Hindalco has crashed 9.5% to Rs 55.

Tata Motors has tumbled 8% to Rs 210. HDFC has shed 6.5% at Rs 1,783, and Bharti Airtel has dropped 6% to Rs 628.

ICICI Bank has slipped over 5% to Rs 376. Ranbaxy, Sterlite and Reliance have declined around 4.5% each to Rs 246, Rs 253 and Rs 1,257, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure has dropped over 4% to Rs 454, and DLF is down 3.5% at Rs 262.

BHEL has gained over 2% at Rs 1,164.

The market breadth is extremely negative - out of 2,210 stocks traded so far, 1,656 have declined, 496 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
