The Sensex is now down 198 points at 8,128.
DLF and ITC have slumped nearly 5% each to Rs 138 and Rs 157, respectively.
Hindalco and Hindustan Unilever have tumbled 4.5% each to Rs 38 and Rs 214, respectively.
Jaiprakash Assocaites, SBI and Sun Pharma have plunged over 4% each to Rs 67, Rs 901 and Rs 978, respectively.
Ranbaxy, TCS and Reliance Communications have shed 4% each at Rs 136, Rs 462 and Rs 132, respectively.
Wipro and ICICI are down over 3.5% each to Rs 205 and Rs 260, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,350 stocks traded so far, 1,517 have declined, 757 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
