Sensex ends down 559pts

The Sensex ended (provisional) at 15,337, down 559 points.

The Nifty settled with a loss of 167 points at 4,545.

The Sensex is now at 15,638, down 258 points.

The NSE Nifty is at 4,634, down 76 points.

The Sensex today morning opened  58 points lower at 15,838 and the index there on kept on gyrating alternate zones of green and red. Weak opening of the european bourses pulled the index deeper into the red to a low of 15,700.44. The index is now at 15,775, down 120 points.

The NSE Nifty is at 4,673, down 38 points.

The BSE Realty index has shed 6% at 3,602 and metal index is down around 4% at 13,462, respectively.

INDEX SHAKERS...

Among the BSE-30 stocks, DLF has slipped 6% to Rs 348 and Hindalco has slumped 6% to Rs 115, respectively.

Reliance Communications and Reliance Infrastructure have dropped 5% each to Rs 167 and Rs 1,006, respectively.

Tata Steel, Wipro, SBI and Sterlite are down over 3.5% each at Rs 452, Rs 585, Rs 2,110 and Rs 744, respectively.

ACC, Reliance, NTPC, Hero Honda, Jaiprakash Associates and TCS have declined 1-3% each.

...AND THE MOVERS

Bharti Airtel is the top gainer, up 4% at Rs 305. Sun Pharma and ICICI Bank have added 2% each at Rs 1,413 and Rs 806, respectively.

The market breadth is extremely negative, out of 2,659 shares traded, 1,859 have declined and 735 have advanced so far on the BSE.

VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS

ICICI bank has topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs 126.21 crore. It is followed by SBI ( Rs 121.86 crore), Bharti Airtel (Rs 111.86 crore), Reliance (Rs 110.36 crore) and Suzlon ( Rs 99.45 crore).

Cals Refineries has topped the combined volume chart with trades of 20.34 million shares. It is followed by Suzlon ( 16.25 million), Sanghai Industries (11.21 million), Reliance Natural Resources (9.87 million) and Indiabulls Power (8.65 million) shares.
