Sensex firms up; Infosys, TCS, SBI lead

The Sensex opened 47 points lower at 14,619, and soon touched a low of 14,527. After the early volatility the index has now firmed up and is up 170 points at 14,836.

TCS has soared over 3% to Rs 762, and Infosys has surged 2.8% to Rs 1,781.

SBI has rallied 2.7% to Rs 1,741. Tata Steel has gained 2.5% at Rs 427, and Hindalco has added 2.3% to Rs 89.

Reliance Communications, ITC and Reliance Infrastructure have advanced around 2% each to Rs 316, Rs 188 and Rs 1,144, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra has shed 2.7% at Rs 680. ONGC and Tata Power are down 1% each at Rs 1,103 and Rs 1,070, respectively.
