Sugar rises on fresh buying

Sugar prices firmed up at the Vashi wholesale market here today on the back of fresh buying from retailers and stockists amidst festive offtake.

Medium sugar (M-30) rose by Rs 9/10 per quintal to Rs 2,800/2,911 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 2,791/2901.

Small sugar (S-30) also edged higher by Rs 1/4 per quintal to Rs 2,751/2,825 as against Rs 2,750/2,821 yesterday.

The following are today's closing rates per quintal, with the previous rates in brackets:
