Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, G Srinivasa Rao, CMD, Nammura Hotel and Cane-O-La Foods, said the company planned to sell fresh sugarcane juice at affordable rates through kiosks and parlours. For entrepreneurs, it will provide new franchise opportunities on the lines of operating STD booths and photocopying stalls.
"Fresh sugarcane juice will be sold under the Cane-O-La brand and for popularising this, we have developed six flavours such as ginger, salt-pepper, lime, chaat and mint with sugarcane juice as the base by pricing 300 ml at Rs 10," he added.
The company plans to help set up 500 outlets through joint ventures, franchisees and convert family-run sugarcane juice centres in the first year of operations. The outlets would get a regular supply of sugarcane cut to size and delivered in refrigerated storage containers from the central warehouse-cum-pre-preparation kitchen.
The company has invested between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 50 lakh for the venture, which also includes imported peeler machines and portable sugarcane extracting machines from the US. It has set up a central processing factory in Mandya and roped in farmers by supplying them with quality seeds to ensure a dedicated supply of sugarcane.
"Cane-O-La Foods plans to popularise it by launching Cane-O-La Sugarcane Juice Movement in key junctions in the city," said Rao.
"In addition to the juice movement, we plan to promote it as a health drink as it is a remedy for fevers, genito-urinary disorders and jaundice," he added.
