JAGGERY: Gur prices fell by up to Rs 50 per quintal in the wholesale gur (jaggery) market of the national capital during the week under review on sluggish demand amid adequate stocks availability.
Marketmen said reduced offtake by stockists and local parties against arrivals of new stocks in the market was largely responsible for the fall in gur prices.
The Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur market also witnessed a downtrend during the week on sluggish demand. In Delhi, gur chakku lost Rs 50 to Rs 2,200-2,250 per quintal, while gur pedi fell by Rs 50 to Rs 2,350-2,400 per quintal.
However, gur dhayya and shakkar prices remained unchanged at Rs 2,400-2,450 and Rs 2,600-2,650 per quintal on scattered buying activity. At Muzaffarnagar, gur chakku went down from Rs 2,000-2,200 to end the week at Rs 1,950-2,200, showing a fall of Rs 50 per quintal.
Gur raskat also moved down from Rs 1,900-1,950 to Rs 1,875-1,925, resulting in a loss of Rs 50 per quintal due to poor offtake by alcohol-making industries.
Meanwhile, gur khrupa prices ruled flat throughout the week on some support at Rs 1,950-2,000 per quintal.
In Murad Nagar, gur pedi receded from Rs 2,150-2,200 to close at Rs 2,100-2,150, translating into a net loss of Rs 50 per quintal, while gur dhayya maintained last week's closing level of Rs 2,150-2,200 per quintal on small buying support.
