11-yr-old American becomes youngest player to qualify for US Women's Open

An eleven-year-old American schoolgirl has reportedly become the youngest player to qualify for the US Women's Open.

Lucy Li will succeed American teenager Lexi Thompson as the youngest golfer to play in the event, which starts on 19 June at Pinehurst.

According to the BBC, Li secured her place after posting rounds of 74 and 68 to win the sectional qualifier at Half Moon Bay in California by seven strokes.

The report mentioned that Thompson was 12 years, four months and 18 days old when she played in the 2007 US Women's Open, the report added.
