A joint operation by the Assam Police and the army resulted in the arrest of 15 members of the banned outfit Karbi People's Liberation Tigers (KPLT) in the Karbi Anglong district of the state.
According to reports, a 72-hour gun battle between the militants and security forces led to the capture of top operatives of the banned group, along with vast quantities of arms and ammunition.
The security forces launched the operation after receiving intelligence from sources and is reportedly one of the most successful crackdowns in the North East region.
Earlier this week, The army's Red Horn Division had nabbed KPLT commander in chief Sunder Dera and deputy commander in chief Danger Ingti, as well as the outfit's finance secretary and auditor.
