At least 17 Afghan policemen were killed and three others wounded after militants ambushed a police convoy in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province late on Friday night.
Reports quoted officials, as saying on Saturday that the ambush took place in the Konjak area of the Musa Qala District.
The police convoy was entering the district from neighboring Baghran district, when the attack took place, a Xinhua report added.
The incident is said to have taken place north of provincial capital of Lashkar Gah and 555 kilometres south of Kabul.
Three police vehicles were destroyed and two vehicles were seized along with rounds of police weapons by fleeing militants after the encounter.
