Ratings for the 86th Annual Academy Awards were up 7 percent as compared to the previous year's ratings.
According to Nielsen, New York, Kansas City, Missouri State and Chicago were the strongest markets for the 2014's Academy Awards, Fox News reported.
The Oscars are frequently the second most-watched television program after the Super Bowl, with viewership topping 40 million people in 2013.
The ceremony, which was hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, was a big hit on social media, as the "selfie" taken by her with stars like Meryl Streep, Julie Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Pitt and Nyong'o was retweeted more than 2 million times and caused Twitter to crash.
