50 injured in train collision in Germany

About 50 people have been injured after a passenger train ploughed into a freight train in Germany's Meerbusch town, local media reports said.

The accident happened near the railway station in the town, when the passenger train carrying 150 passengers drove into the freight train.

After the news reached local authorities, emergency services reached the spot and helped in extracting the stranded passengers in the train and tended the injured.

No casualty has been reported so far.

The media reports further added that German Chancellor Angela Merkel had been informed about the mishap.
