Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched petition campaign on Tuesday to urge people to join hands with them in demanding fresh -elections in Delhi.

Delhi has been under President's rule since February when Chief of AAP, Arvind Kejriwal, resigned from the post of chief minister after his 49-day-old government failed to table its Ombudsman Bill in the assembly.

The assembly has been under suspended animation ever since and no party has staked a claim to form the government.

AAP leaders said that they would go door-to-door starting Wednesday and ask people to sign a petition to be sent to the government of India.

"The government is neither providing a solution for the problems of people, nor is it clearing way to give Delhi an elected government. So, Aam Aadmi Party has decided that we will go door-to-door to the people and people will themselves demand an elected government," said AAP leader, Manish Sisodia.

Leaders of Aam Aadmi party on July 21 had met the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to convince him to dissolve the legislative assembly and call for fresh polls. The AAP leaders had also asked Jung for a withdrawal of President's rule in Delhi.

Meanwhile, Sisodia attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that he had only given elaborate speeches before and after the general elections, but had done nothing to curb corruption.

"Now speeches of Modi are not enough to run the country. He needs to act now and in the past two months of the new government, there has been no indication from the government side that it is strict against corruption," he said.

BJP had won 31 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls of December last year but its number has come down to 28 in the 70-member house as three of its legislators - Harsh Vardhan, Ramesh Bidhuri and Pervesh Verma - were elected to Lok Sabha in the general election.
