Supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) celebrated as party chief Arvind Kejriwal hinted at a possibility of contesting elections against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi from Varanasi.
While addressing a rally in Bangalore, Kejriwal said he will visit Varanasi in on March 23 to know the wishes of the people and then take a decision.
"There was a party meeting and they said that I should contest polls against Narendra Modi. I know this is a very big challenge," said Kejriwal.
Meanwhile, AAP supporters in Varanasi were happy to learn that Kejriwal was likely to fight Modi.
"Today we are celebrating the dual occasion, one of which is the festival of colours, Holi and other Arvind Kejriwal's announcing his candidature from Varanasi for the upcoming polls. We will pray to every god that he wins and the people of city are with him," said AAP supporter, Shastri.
Taking a dig at Kejriwal, BJP leader, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, wished him good luck.
"We wish him good luck that his mental health stays well, and the way he is addressing rallies in a weird and confusing way till the upcoming elections, it should not impact his mental health. This is all we wish him. We also wish him Happy Holi," said Naqvi.
