Hundreds of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers have gathered outside the party office asking Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to tender his resignation after the Jan Lokpal Bill did not get the required votes to be introduced in the Delhi Assembly on Friday.
"We have gathered here to ask Arvind Kejriwal to resign. The opposition will not let us work. Our main agenda was Jan Lokpal and we were unable to introduce it. He should resign, and there should be re-elections. Public is fully aware, and it was completely support us," an AAP supporter said.
Kejriwal had earlier threatened to resign from his post if he is prevented by other parties from introducing the bill.
Meanwhile AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said that the party would be decided on the course of action after a meeting with all the workers.
"As soon as the Assembly proceedings are over, we will have a party meeting. We can tell our decision only after the meeting," Yadav told media here today.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Assembly Speaker M.S. Dhir announced that the Jan Lokpal Bill has not been introduced in the House.
"42 MLAs are against and 27 are for it, so Jan Lokpal Bill is not being introduced," said Dhir after voting took place for the introduction of the bill.
Meanwhile, the Assembly continued to witness protests by the Opposition who repeatedly entered the well of the House to object to the manner in which the Bill was being tabled.
