Pakistan's religious-political opposition party Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has refused to apologize for its statement ridiculing martyrdom of military personnel in war against terror, and has advised army to not indulge in politics.

Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Liaquat Baloch said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had issued a political press release, which was inappropriate for a military force, the Daily Times reports.

The party secretary also said that their leader Syed Munawar Hassan's statement regarding the Pakistan Army was absolutely correct and according to Sharia law.

Hassan's recent controversial announcement of giving the title of "martyr" to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Hakimullah Mehsud, after he got killed in a U.S. drone strike earlier this month, but derision of military personnel for losing their lives in war against Taliban, has invited agony and contempt.

The Pakistan army had asked the JI chief to tender an unconditional apology on Monday.

However, Hassan said that army has no right to question any political party directly.
