Afghanistan's Khwaja Ghar district falls to Taliban

Local officials on Monday confirmed that Khwaja Ghar district of Afghanistan's Takhar province has fallen to the Taliban, following heavy clashes between the insurgent group and the security forces.

Provincial police Chief Noor Mohammad Hakimi said clashes are ongoing in the Bazaar of Khwaja Ghar district, reports the Tolo News.

Hakimi, however, said neither side has full control of the district.

So far no casualties have yet been reported.?

Local officials said operations are underway to recapture the district.

Takhar is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan.
