Agartala-Dhaka Bus Service resumes

The Agartala-Dhaka bus service which was suspended for sometime following Jamaat-e-Islami-led violence and strikes in Bangladesh, resumed on Saturday.

But, people associated with the transportation business complained that number of passengers travelling between the two nations has gone down.

"The number of passenger travelling is less as due to the strikes going on in Bangladesh but now the situation has lightly improved. Passengers are travelling less due to road blockage and strikes," said Mohammad Badal, a driver of Shymoli, run by Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).

A commuter in the bus informed that as the situation has improved in Bangladesh, they are travelling to that country to meet relatives.

"I am going to Gulshan in Dhaka to meet my son who is employed there. I am aware about the unrest in Bangladesh, but my son has informed that the situation has improved now," said Jamuna Dey, a resident of Agartala.

Earlier, an Indian bus was set ablaze by violent protestors close to Dhaka, which led to the suspension of the bus service.

Tripura shares 856 km-long-border with Bangladesh which constitutes 85 per cent of the total border of the state. The state transacts trade with the neighbouring country through five land custom stations.

The Jamaat-e-Islami, which was against the Bangladesh liberation war in 1971, organised protests and strikes across that country since Monday to protest the death sentence of the party's secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammed Mujaheed by an international tribunal.
