Accepting the defeat in the politically-crucial Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday congratulated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its victory and said the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance will continue in future.
"The decision of the public is very well accepted by the Samajwadi Party. We wish all the best to the upcoming government in the state," he said adding, "I am very happy that we formed an alliance with the Congress. Two young leaders came together and this alliance will continue in future as well."
He further said, "Sometimes in politics, you don't get votes by making people understand something, but by enticing them."
The Chief Minister said the people must be expecting much better work from their leader.
"In all these five years, we have continuously tried our best to push the state towards development. I believe the upcoming government will perform much better than our government. They will build better infrastructure than our party and will focus on the necessities of the people," he added.
On Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) supremo Mayawati's allegations of the BJP tampering with the EVMs, he said, "If a party has raised doubts over the EVMs, then there should be a probe on that matter."
The early trends in the assembly election show the BJP leading in 324 seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance leading in 57 seats while Mayawati-led BSP ahead in 19 seats.
Uttar Pradesh went to polls in seven phases in the months of February and March.
A total of 4,854 candidates were in fray for 403 assembly constituencies.
