It may have been a multi-million-pound blockbuster, but Daniel Craig's Bond outing 'Spectre' has been branded as "the most complained about film of 2015."

Some 40 viewers complained to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) about the spy thriller's depiction of violence, the Independent reported.

A report from the BBFC revealed, "One scene involving an eye-gouging was slightly too strong for the company's preferred 12A classification."

It further read, "We therefore suggested reductions to this scene. What remains in the classified version of the scene is a brief implication of what is happening, with only limited visual detail."

The BBFC's chief executive David Austin said, "By our standards it is quite a lot of complaints but the box office for Spectre is £94m so in context it is a tiny proportion."

'Kingsman: The Secret Service' prompted 38 complaints in 2015 and 'Despicable Me' spin-off 'Minions' received 16 in all.

The 'Woman in Black' from 2012 is the most complained about film of this decade, receiving 134 complaints.
