A delegation of weavers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked him for announcing August 7 as National Handloom Day.
They expressed their happiness over the recent policy initiatives of the government with regard to the handloom industry.
The delegation also gave their suggestions to the Prime Minister on ways to improve returns from the handloom sector. (ANI)
Handloom industry in India is one of the ancient cottage/small scale industry. The industry is providing direct employment to 35 million people in Indian unorganized sector.
The handloom sector plays an important role in the economic development of the rural poor. It contributes significantly by generating more employment opportunities and providing bread to the rural poor.
