Amid the ongoing repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan across the Line of Control (LoC), Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today assured that India's armed forces are giving the required response to the violations by Pakistan.

"There has been a series of provocations in the last few days. But our armed forces at the LoC and the Border Security Force (BSF) at the international border are fully protecting both our territory and our people. Whatever response is required to these provocations by Pakistan is adequately taken by them," he said.

Intense shelling from across the border last night led to yet another sleepless night for the residents of RS Pura and Arnia sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. This came after repeated instances of shelling, including one on Friday night, that had left two civilians dead and one BSF jawan injured.

Five members of the same family were injured in the ceasefire violation on Friday, out of whom the father and son succumbed to their injuries on Saturday. A BSF jawan was also injured in the firing.

Admitting that ceasefire violations by Pakistan have increased of late, Jaitley had said yesterday also that the BSF and the Indian Army responded effectively to each such violation.

However, strongly rejecting Indian allegations of repeated ceasefire violations, Pakistan had on Saturday suggested that both sides should consider holding an urgent meeting between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) to resolve the situation at the LoC.
