Armed Forces, NDRF rescue over 1.27 lakh in J-K (update-Armed Forces)

The Armed Forces and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have rescued over 1,27,000 people affected by the floods in Jammu and Kashmir as part of the ongoing rescue and relief operations in the state.

The Air Force and Army Aviation Corps have pressed Eighty 89 aircraft and helicopters into service, while the Army has deployed around 30,000 troops for rescue and relief operations, of which 21,000 troops are deployed in the Srinagar region and 9,000 troops are in the Jammu region. Armed Forces personnel are distributing water bottles and food packets on a large scale. So far 3,98,000 litres of water, 31,500 food packets and over 748 tonnes cooked food have already been airdropped and distributed in the flood-affected areas.

Apart from this, 13 tonnes of water purifying tablets and six water filtration plants with a capacity to filter 1.2 lakh bottles per day have reached Srinagar, while 22,000 litres of fuel from Ambala has been transported.

Meanwhile, a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) team in Srinagar is providing medical assistance as well as distributing Ready-to-Eat (RTE) packaged foods.

The Army's relief operations are continuing in full swing with the troops working round the clock to evacuate the people under distress and also provide relief to the population in terms of water, food, relief material and medical assistance.
