The Australian media has argued that with the ICC in a clear DRS developmental phase, wisdom dictates the cricketing body should instead experiment in a county cricket or Sheffield Shield environment, similar to the approach taken by the ARL Commission.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the DRS's accuracy is not drastically different to the percentage of correctness of on-field decisions, and it is far less beneficial to the sport than the review technology used in tennis.

The report said that decisions in the first three Ashes tests involving Khawaja, Ashton Agar and Stuart Broad illustrate well that the technology, and its implementation, is plainly imperfect.

The ICC conditions require the third umpire to confine himself to the facts and not disrupt the original decision unless he is highly confident, based on the evidence and any benefit of the doubt once afforded to batsmen has now shifted to the beneficiary of the original decision, the report added.
