ASI focalises on restoration of Taj Mahal

The Archaeological Survey of India has focalised on the restoration of the Taj Mahal, an initiative that would help in preservation of the world heritage site.

The pinnacle of Mughal architecture has been the centre of attention after a militant attack on the Bodhgaya temple of Bihar, targeting the heritage monuments in the country.

Authorities have initiated the renovation work at the front gate of the monument, the black mosque and the boundary walls of the compound.

"The work is not just taking place at the gate. If you go towards the Black Mosque or boundary walls of the Taj Mahal, you will see the restoration work going on. All the conservation works are done according to the needs of the time. Wherever there is a requirement, the work is done accordingly," said R.K Singh, assistant superintending archaeologist ASI on Monday.

Tourist said the renovation of the monument should be carried out with utmost care keeping its authenticity intact.

"I really think the monument should be kept as it is. If you really need to renovate it, you should use original material and get proper craftsmen to do the work. So that more people from the young generation can watch the monument", said Ashton, a British tourist.

Visitors were thrilled to see that the white marbled monument, which boasts off the cultural heritage of the country, was being revamped.

"When the work finishes, it will look really beautiful. I like that they are working on it. It shows that the Indians are proud of their past and want to show it to everybody in the world", said a tourist Fransina Clinton.

In addition, CCTV cameras have been installed around the complex to keep a strict vigil ensuring safety.
