A major tragedy was averted after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered on Tuesday from a railway track in Assam's Gauripur town.

The IED was later defused by the Boom Disposal Squad (BDS) through a controlled explosion.

"They (IED) were diffused in the presence of experts, we are investigating the matter. It was an IED timer bomb. We are in touch with other security agencies," said Additional Superintendent of Police, Debashish Bora.
