Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today stated that the state government is making sincere efforts to resolve the border issue with Nagaland which has led to the death of nine people so far and injured scores of others.

Gogoi said, "It was a good and positive beginning, everyone sincerely wants to restore peace and normalcy, I must thank Nagaland CM."

Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju, had arrived in Guwahati earlier today to meet both Tarun Gogoi and Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang.

After the meeting, Kiren Rijiju informed that a joint mechanism had been worked out to prevent such incidents.

Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang also said, "We have assured Assamese people living in Nagaland will be protected, no intimidation or threat to them."

He also informed that an inquiry committee had been constituted.

"We have constituted inquiry committee, both district and state level along with chief secretaries will contain the situation," he added.

Yesterday, violent protest in Assam's Golaghat district had injured several people as local police opened fire at the mob.

The protest was held against violence in the area that erupted after Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's convoy was attacked near the Assam-Nagaland border by demonstrators opposing his visit to the area after the police had resorted to firing in the air and lathi-charge to control them.

A similar protest was also staged in Guwahati by the members of All Assam Students Union (AASU) against the Golaghat violence.

Locals in the affected regions continue to live under uncertainty and insecurity due to the periodic clashes.
