At least four suspected terrorists have been killed after security forces busted their hideout in eastern Bangladeshi district of Chittagong on Thursday.

The police raided the building in the southern port city of Chittagong.

Bangladesh has experienced a surge in attacks by suspected militants in recent years.

In a July attack, 20 hostages, including 17 foreigners, were killed in a restaurant in the nation's capital.

Bangladesh has suffered a spate of deadly attacks on secular activists, foreigners and religious minorities in recent years.

The Islamic State group and Al Qaeda have claimed many of these attacks, but the government and police reject that and say home-grown groups are responsible.
