The father of Australian ODI captain George Bailey has revealed that there is a 'steely resolve' behind the outward mask of his son's constant 'pearly whites'.
The current 'Midas touch' batting form of Bailey with his 474 runs at an impressive average of 118.5 in India, which makes him a form player at the start of the season, may be another reason behind his constant smile, although he is almost without peer off the field, especially at a time when culture has become the buzzword in Australian cricket.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, however, Bailey's father John said that his son's generally genial disposition, honesty and selflessness have occasionally been misinterpreted, adding that underneath his smiling face, there is a very steely resolve.
Agreeing with Bailey senior, former Australian player and Bailey's former state coach Tim Coyle said that the ODI skipper occasionally disguises a grimace with a smile, even though he would be bubbling beneath, adding that Bailey is very keen to enjoy what he is doing both on and off the field.
The report mentioned that the national selectors recognised Bailey's character when they made him the first man to captain Australia on debut early last year even though elements of the old board displayed state-based parochialism at the shock decision to dump former skipper Cameron White.
