A court in Dhaka has upheld the arrest warrants against the opposition leader of Bangladesh and chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust and Charitable graft cases.
According to the Daily Star, Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar said that the order on the BNP chief's arrest will remain in effect as he refused to entertain the petitions seeking withdrawal of arrest warrants against the leader.
Judge Jamadar said, after hearing the petitions that such petitions cannot be filed on behalf of any fugitive accused, as per law.
For further hearing in the case, the court fixed the date for April 5.
The court also allowed the defence counsel Sanaullah Mia to represent Tarique Rahman, another accused in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
