Bappi Lahiri was felicitated as goodwill ambassador for 'Education For All' campaign on Monday in Mumbai.
The felicitation ceremony was organised by National Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Association of Nepal (NAFUCON).
The award was given to the veteran Bollywood composer to honour his outstanding contribution to the music industry.
Speaking on the importance of the campaign, Lahiri, who popularised the use of synthesized disco music in Indian cinema, said that literacy is the foundation of development.
"Every child should be given 'Right to Education'. Literacy is the foundation stone on which the developing nations will grow. I am very happy that my words will make a difference to the dreams of millions of children. I request every one whose work matter to join me in this quest for 'Education for All'," he said.
