Barkha Singh to Kejriwal : Stop 'disgusting blame game' on Anand Parbat murder

Former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh on Sunday urged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to stop the 'blame game' over the death of the 19-year-old girl brutally murdered on Saturday for resisting her alleged molesters in the Anand Parbat area of the national capital.

"It was a horrific incident. Political leaders have reduced this incident to a joke. To say that welfare work will be taken up only when their demand for full statehood and transfer of Delhi Police under the state government are fulfilled is not right. When you were seeking votes from the people, you knew that Delhi did not have full statehood, neither was the Delhi Police under the administration of the state government. Why did you then make false promises of ensuring safety of the women when voted to power?" Singh told ANI here.

"Today, all you do is blame Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This blame-game should end. To play politics over someone's death is disgusting. So what Kejriwal is doing is absolutely wrong. He is just making excuses to avoid doing work and is only interested in putting up a show," she added.

Questioning the decision of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo to pay a compensation of rupees five lakh compensation to the victim's family, Singh said: "This incident took place on Thursday and yesterday when people protested outside his residence, he went to pay rupees five lakh compensation to the victim's family. Is the value of life worth rupees five lakh compensation? Will rupees five lakh or ten lakh compensation bring their daughter back?"

The 19-year-old girl was brutally stabbed to death allegedly by two brothers living in her neighbourhood for protesting against their verbal abuse on July 16.

Chief Minister Kejriwal, accompanied by his deputy Manish Sisodia, visited the victim's family and assured them of all possible help.

Kejriwal earlier in the day also summoned Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi to discuss this case and the prevailing law and order situation in the national capital.
