A massive rural electrification project is in progress in Bihar under the ambitious Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana.
The prime objective of this scheme is to provide electricity to the rural people of the state. Under this scheme, villages and hamlets having at least thirty households will be electrified.
The Bihar Power Grid and the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) are the agencies that are implementing this scheme in the state.
According to reports, the scheme will benefit both Above Poverty Line (APL) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families equally.
As per the reports, 54 projects under Gram Jyoti Yojana have been commissioned in different parts of Bihar. 44 percent villages of the state have already been electrified. Over eight thousand crore rupees
have been allocated for rural electrification in the state.
The major component of the scheme is separation of agriculture and non-agriculture feeders to supply electricity to agricultural and non-agricultural consumers in the rural areas.
Projects under this scheme are expected to be completed within a period of 24 months from the date of issue of letter of awards by the agencies.
