Launching a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi post the grand alliance's landslide victory in the Bihar Assembly polls, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said this is a defeat of hatred, arrogance and anger.

Gandhi congratulated Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and all leaders of the mahagathbandhan for the win.

"This is a message for Modi ji. The message is clear that Modi ji, the RSS and BJP cannot divide this country. You cannot win the election by making the Hindus fight against Muslims. This is not a nation of caste and religion, this is the country of all and there should be love and brotherhood in this country," said Gandhi.

"I want Mr. Modi to tone down his arrogance as it will be good for him and the nation as well," he added.

The Congress vice-president further lauded Nitish, saying he has taken the state on the path of development.

Applause and wishes poured in for Nitish following the grand alliance's clinical win in the Bihar Assembly elections.

The BJP, however, put up a brave face and accepted the people's mandate as Prime Minister Modi and party president Amit Shah wished Nitish.

The mahagathbandhan is leading in 168 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA is ahead in 67 seats respectively so far.
