Union Ministers Birender Singh and Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha bye-election from Haryana.
The two leaders, who were sworn-in as ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet on October 27, are required to be an MP within six months.
Birender Singh and Prabhu are expected to sail through in the Rajya Sabha with the BJP enjoying a comfortable majority in Haryana, following its recent win in the assembly polls.
The BJP at present has 43 seats in the Upper House and the inclusion of these two leaders would increase the party's tally.
Birender Singh, who was formerly a Rajya Sabha member of the Congress from Haryana, quit his seat to join the BJP ahead of the assembly elections. Prabhu, who was earlier a part of the Shiv Sena, quit his party on the day of his induction into the Union Cabinet.
