The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers held a meeting here on Friday to thank the Centre for its major decisions on problems related to the national capital and in particular lauded the government for its decision on regularisation of unauthorised colonies.
The workers felicitated Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at his residence for the government's 'pro-people decisions'.
Jaitley said the government's decision to regularise unauthorised colonies in the national capital has been taken to provide basic amenities in these areas at par with other developed colonies of the city.
He said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken two important decisions for the betterment of Delhi.
"The first decision which has been taken is that the stay duration on court's order to seal and shut down millions of shops and industries in Delhi has been extended until a solution is found. The second important decision that has been taken is the cut-off date for regularisation of all the unauthorised colonies in Delhi constructed till 2014, which earlier was till 2002, has been extended to 2014. These colonies have been regularised," said Jaitley.
Jaitley added these colonies were formed because there are economic opportunities in metro cities.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said the government is taking several pro-people decisions to make Delhi a better place to live in.
"The Central Government has solved many issues which were not resolved since last 20 years- be it the Special Provision Act or the problems of slum dwellers or the construction of new hospitals and colleges, Renuka dam work or the problem of unauthorised colonies of Delhi that has been a major problem affecting eight million people. We have come here to thank the government," said Upadhyay.
Senior BJP leaders Vijay Goel, Vijender Gupta, Ramesh Bidhuri and Vijay Jolly were also present during the meeting.
The Union Cabinet had earlier on Monday approved the amendment of the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013, stating that the owners of land acquired via laws exempted under the act will now be eligible for a similar compensation.
