BJP concerned about reports of it being spied upon by NSA

Reacting to reports that America's National Security Agency (NSA) was allowed by a US court to spy on six political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), BJP IT Cell Head Arvind Gupta said it is a matter of great concern, and added that the party will take up this issue with the appropriate authority.

"If this report is true, it is a matter of great concern. It is matter of concern because it deals with the interfering of a democratic process of a sovereign nation. At the BJP, we are quite concerned about it," said Gupta.

"We will request the concerned authorities to first verify this claim, and then, take appropriate action so as to ensure that this is not repeated and is not repeated in the future," added Gupta.

He also warned counterparts in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world to not intervene, and said that they should refrain from indulging in such activities in the future.

"It is a matter of national security and foreign does not have a right to interfere with India's democratic process," he added.

Earlier today, a Washington Post report revealed that the National Security Agency (NSA) of the U.S. was allowed by a U.S. court to spy on six political in the world, including the BJP.

Other parties, who were spied upon, included Pakistan People's Party and Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood.

The permission to NSA to spy on 193 foreign government and entities was given by America's Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Court in 2010.

The classified documents accessed by the Washington Post were leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden.
