The Congress party on Thursday accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of indulging in organised corruption, even as the nation's pained citizens continue to scramble for cash because of the NDA regime's abrupt demonetisation of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency notes.

Highlighting the extravagant expenditure by former BJP minister and mining baron G. Janardhana Reddy on his daughter's marriage, Congress leader Rizwan Arshad told ANI, "No BJP leaders is being seen in queue taking money because they were, I think, informed earlier and were allowed to convert their money into the new currency."

"BJP leaders are comfortable today, the BJP as a party is comfortable today because it is an organised corruption where you put everybody in hardship and you yourself convert the money earlier before announcing this," he added.

"We have not opposed Mr. Modi for his onslaught on black money, but his whole work is not based on the onslaught on black money. It is just for publicity, where every person should feel he is doing something for the country. But on contrary, it is not happening like that. The BJP and their allies, besides their business partners, everybody, is comfortable, they have converted their money long back and now the onslaught is on the people," he said.

He said it was unfortunate that those BJP-RSS people who give lectures on black money and corruption to the whole country are today silent on their own leaders.

"On the one hand, Mr. Modi has banned the 500 and 1000 rupees notes, and on the other, he has not made preparations to deliver alternate currencies into the hands of the people," he said.
